Welcome, Fright Night

The rumors of a fright night remake have been floating around the internet for years. Now it seems they have happened thanks to Dreamworks. It stars Collin Farrell as Jerry (he's even on a dirt bike), the new member of a small quiet suburban community. He moves in next door to Charley play by Anton Yelchin. Instantly Jerry's wit and charm makes him loved and trusted by everyone, including Charley's mom and girlfriend. Charley's finds his him not as convincing and is determined to find out what's up with his new neighbor friend. Turns out Jerry, is a creature of the night... a blood thirsty god-dam blood sucking vampire. Charley is in for it now as Jerry doesn't like anyone knowing his secret.

Collin Farrell is a great choice, I always liked his intensity as an actor and this role would require someone who can stand on their own. The trailer looks pretty bad ass and you can see it here. With the exception of the questionable computer effects (I miss when they actually made monsters with make-up and blew up cars with explosives) I saw McLovin in the trailer as Charley's high school friend. Now granted, I haven't seen this move, but remember, it's a remake, welcome to Hollywood, circa 2011.

Let's step back for a minute to 1985, the original Fright Night (Notice how we always have to say that these days, original, ol skool, classic... I'm getting old). If your a child of the 80's like me, and a product of the local video store you instantly fell in love with the box art for this movie. That how most movie's were discovered then, no internet, just amazing box art that would draw you in and fork up the 2.99 for an evening's viewing. Not all of them panned out, (Not of This Earth, starring Traci Lords) but Fright Night definitely did.

Fright Night had the perfect mix of horror-comedy that was so alive back then. A perfect balance of scares and laughter that kept you on the edge of your seat, and racking up late fees so you could watch it a few more times before it went back.

In the original the Jerry (the vampire) was slick, cunning, sly and a bit of an 80's porn star. Played by Chris Sarandon he was a perfect dark prince. He could woo you with his vampire skillz or kill you with his blood lust, his choice.

Charley was played by Williams Ragsdale who gave the right mix of boyish charm and blissful curiosity. He had the look of a Sixteen Candles audition reject. He now still works in television with series as recent as Justified.

And then there was Stephen Geoffreys who played Charley's high school friend as now seen as McLovin in the remake. Geoffreys was awesome and next to Jerry easily the most memorable character in the film. He was the perfect nerd that would never get the girl but was so fun to watch try. He later became the star of another of my favorite 1988 horror flicks directed by Robert Englund, 976-EVIL as the same type of character. Now he is a gay porn star... really.

And who can forget the soundtrack. Give it a listen. It still plays heavy rotation on my ipod, had to finally thow out the cassette.

The original Fright Night was the perfect mix of scare and comedy, so rare today. Everything is so serious, even our entertainment. We can't take the realism out of anything for the fact it may not be cool or hip to the youngsters who might have their attention span redirected by a video game or a Stephen Geoffreys porn film on the internet. Remember Hollywood, entertainment is an escape, that's why we watch.

I am looking forward to the remake, really, really, really. I just hope in modern Hollywood we can start to do more than just recreate the past, and create original stories in the present. Fright Night looks cool, but will never be as cool as 1985.

Halloween 2010

Standing in line at a local Michael's craft store check out line, I noticed these bad boys. The ghost flavor is described as a mystery in each bite... and the black vampire version is said to taste "blood orange".

Look awesome, probably won't taste awesome, since I was to cheap to purchase these creepy flavored gum drops, i took this picture to remind me... Halloween is almost here.... my most favorite favorite time of the year!!!

Time to get busy.... muuuuaaahhhh.

The Video Store is Dead

It's a sad day, yes, but I couldn't have said it better myself. Check out this article.

Viva Machete! September 3rd 2010

Thank you Mr. Rodriguez for seeing this one through! The most exciting (not real) trailer that ran during the Grindehouse interludes has been put into motion. Ever since Dirty Harry has been "making punks lucky" no film has come close, until this. Danny Trejo is Machete. Also starring Robert Dinero, Jesica Alba, Don Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, and freak'n Steven Segal, looking cool again... what did i just say?
Machete on September 3rd can't arrive soon enough!

It's Been a While

It's been a while since I've been to the blog, a little over a year... and a lot of things have changed. Reaper has been canceled, booooo CW! Supernatural was renewed from it's final "Kripke's planned ending" season, yeah CW... I hope. True Blood is my new favorite, but now they are pitting werewolves against vampires. I know this was a series of books before it became a television show and the writers use this as plot refrence, however seems convenient timing with the height of Twilight mania (don't hate the Twilight). Even with that said, I really enjoy this show. The eccentric nature of characters like Layfette and Jason Stackhouse, weigh the overly dramatic stories successfully combining a grocery store romance novel with the slick producing of creator Alan Ball.

A few of the newer shows this last year like Vampire Diaries, Happytown, The Gates, havent worked for me. It's just a matter of time before their replaced. Maybe Dexter will return in September with Season 5 premiere saving the day. Season 4's surprise ending was one of the best ever written in television series (you have to see for yourself).

Speaking of grocery store romance novels let's jump right into the Twilight films. Oooh, just kidding Twilight fans, I'll get trashed for that one. All kidding aside, I really did enjoy the first two films for what they are. They have changed today's vampire into a romantic story similar to Dracula from the films of the 20's & 30's. He had this quality as well, luring women to his castle with his charm not to marry them, but so he could eat them. I'm glad the Twilight films have come to the party. There is room for all of us here, and all kinds of interpretations of the legend, that is the freedom of storytelling. They even wooed David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy) to direct the most recent, Eclipse. If I could make one small request to the producers it would be fangs. Fangs, fangs, fangs, fangs, maybe that's four requests, but my point is that I can even do without the blood and gore for the pg-13 rating, but a vampire needs fangs. Don't let'm starve.

I do have to give warning to twilight fans, the time will come, I don't know when, but the vampire will change again when the next generation calls for something else. And we will welcome that to the party as well. "You're a vampire, Michael. My own brother, a goddam shit-sucking vampire. You wait 'til Mom finds out buddy!".

The loss of Corey Haim will forever leave a spot in all 80's horror fans and our generation. If you remember garbage pail kids, Saturday morning cartoons, neon colored pants, video stores and VHS copies of Silver Bullet, The Watchers, Lost Boys, then you know exactly what I'm saying. They will never make movies like that again, it's more than the death of a child star, it's the death of an era of film, R.I.P Corey.

There has been a few hidden treasures in the sea of mediocre horror films the last 12 months has produced. Zombieland! Halloween ll! Jenifer's Body! Friday the 13th (the remake)! Look for my late reviews in the coming weeks of each. I have yet to watch the Nightmare remake, maybe DVD, I am conflicted. It is another death of a character and an era that can never be replaced. This need to restart franchises instead of creating a new is becoming tiresome. What the producers don't understand is Englund was Freddy, it's not a character you can replace like Dracula or the Wolfman. Try remaking Beetlejuice with Dane Cook... yeah, you see what I mean, will never work.

I will continue to visit this blog as much as time allows reviewing and revisiting horror movies, news, reviews. Thanks for visiting. Stay tuned.

Halloween Coming Early This Year!

Trailer is here
Rob Zombie is hard at work in post production to meet the August 28th release date of H2. Don't get it wrong, it's not a re-telling of the crappy original Halloween sequel. It will continue with the aftermath of what has become of Lori Strode but in twisted Zombie fashion.

Rob was quoted by shocktilyoudrop.com as saying,

"When I finished Halloween I was so f**king burnt out that the thought of doing another seemed totally insane to me at the time. I was done. But after a year and a half break I started to think that maybe another one wasn't such a bad idea. I love the characters and felt that I had only just scratched the surface of what could be done with them. The basic story was out of the way and now the series could go anywhere. Seeing the aftermath of Michael's rampage through the eyes of Laurie and Loomis was very exciting to me. So I came back and now we have a movie. Never say never."

Filmed near and around where he lives in Atlanta, I can't wait to see what where he takes this story. I've read rumors online of the mask not being seen much in the film... let's give Rob a chance, he's proven worthy from his masterful compliment to Carpenter's original masterpiece. (read my original review further down the page) He has the passion for the subject matter and the creativity to take this franchise somewhere it has yet to go. I won't comment on that until i see the movie.

Supposedly the trailer is being released online this friday! Check back here, when i find it, I'll add the link! Happy early Halloween... muaaaahhhhahhhh!

Tales from the Darkside

Who remembers this gem from the 1980's? Produced and partially written by George A. Romero, this anthology series was a predecessor to Tales from the Crypt and an after thought of Twilight Zone. The first season aired in 84 and was just released on DVD a month ago. It was then considered the dark competitor to Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories which aired in 85'.

Tales from the Darkside took your normal everday situation and twists it, yep you guessed right... to the dark side. I have watched the first few episodes so far. The first is called "Trick or Treat" written by George Romereo himself. It's about an old man who gets his kicks scaring kids on halloween with his haunted house, that is until he gets a scare of his own.

I must warn you, as with most television going back 20 years now (i'm getting so old) the stories have a much slower pace then they do now. It was a different era, a different way of telling, and with this is mind you can then open your mind and sink back into the 80's, a simplier time, try not to compare it to the stuff today. It's much more fun.

The budget I'm sure was tiny, but the creativity wasnt't. Remember before computers? (if you do, your old like me, haha!) Monsters were actually make-up artists most valiant efforts to bring demons, ghouls and goblins to life. Lights and wires were used, not blue screens and After Effects.

Also lots of actors in this series i had forgotten about. Almost as if they don't age in my head, frozen in time. I realize they do, but in my golden era of childhood, they don't. The second episode had "Buddy" from just one of the guys. His name is Billy Jayne, i remember his face and his work but never knew his name. Got to love the imdb.

Stephen King contributed a story I am looking forward to watching. Also Christian Slater is in an episode. Say what you will, but Slater was bad ass when we were kids. Pump up the Volume, Gleaming the Cube, Heathers, The Legend of Billie Jean... that's the Christian Slater i remember, not "I jot got cancelled on the latest crappy NBC show" Christian Slater. Sorry, got off topic...

If i can remember anything from watching this series as a child, it's this creepy ass intro... used to scare the frosted flakes out of me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnE3-0X-174

Tales from the Darkside is out to own dvd. There was also a movie that came later by the same name.

Rob Zombie's Halloween :: DVD Review

House of 1,000 Corpses & Devil’s Rejects were decent. Reminded me of the first time I saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a kid, disgust is an emotion you know, however I never liked torture horror. The Saw films, Captivity, Hostel, nothing there for me, I need a story not just gore.

However Rob’s films were different, they had an appeal. They were torture horror but had the ability to keep me on the edge of my seat. Most horror films follow the victims as the killers chase them. Rob flipped this and followed the killers examining their world and was original and an exciting watch. But once was enough, never seen either of his films more than that.

Until I watched his re-imagining of John Carpenter’s classic 1978 film Halloween. Let me say John Carpenter’s original Halloween is one of the greatest horror movies of all time. I wasn’t expecting much of Zombie’s film here. However, what I got was an intense ride that kicked me in the face every few minutes or so! It intensely compliments the original instead of detracting from it. It dives deep into the story of the notorious Myers very rarely coming up for a breath.

In the original Halloween Loomis (Donald Pleasance) touches on a lot of back story of what and who Myers is and why he’s in town trying to kill Jamie Lee Curtis. Rob takes that little bit of back story and creates one of the coolest re-tellings of modern horror history. Young Myers played disturbingly wonderful by Daeg Faerch is a troubled young boy. He has a deep mental illness (putting it lightly) that shows itself already at age 10. He proceeds to slaughter his whole family when he can’t take it anymore. The fallout is a rollercoaster ride with his left behind mother (played by Sherrie Moon Zombie, Rob’s wife) dealing with tragedy and truths she never wanted to acknowledge. Very emotional and surprisingly moving, it added a human element to the characters almost all horror films lack.

We watch Myers stay over the next twenty or so years at the mental institution he has been committed. This is where we meet Loomis (Malcolm McDowell) and watch them interact in a very personal doctor/patient relationship. Loomis truly cares for the boy as we watch him get darker and take an unhealthy obsession of hiding himself behind a series of homemade masks.

This is where we pick up the original film, Myers escapes and returns to find his baby sister. At first almost for a loss of companion, he is searching for something, love that he never had from the last family member left in the world. However when he is rejected by her his killing rampage takes on massive proportions for the small unknowing town. Loomis arrives to warn of the carnage that is coming. The audience is left with sympathy for Myers but not so much so that we can’t wait to see his demise.

See this movie, the 2 Disc dvd is a great edition to any collection, for I can say for the first time, I will watch Rob Zombie’s Halloween over an over again. It seems as if Rob has been preparing for this movie his whole life, and pulled it off with brilliance. Excellent film with lots of the extras on the discs!!!

Zodiac Director's Cut :: DVD Review

I have seen David Fincher's Zodiac 3 times already. That's close to a 9 hour investment since the film has a run time of 2 hours and 45 minutes. As you can tell by the previous statement, I am a huge fan of this movie. Tuesday the Director's Cut 2 Disc DVD came out. Why the studios wait 6 months to give us the extras the first release did not have is beyond me. Well, that's not true, I do know why. They want you to buy the damn thing twice, but that's for another post.

After I sold my single disc copy of Zodiac on ebay... thank you ebay, I went out and purchased the 2 disc. It carries in it, the film with 5 more minutes, a behind the scenes documentary, commentary with Fincher, and 3 different specials with true zodiac victims and the police officers who were there and lived it. Those are are great features to compliment a really amazing film. The packaging on the discs could have been better, we waited 6 months. Some studios will give you something really creative that you can tell a design department had alot of fun creating. But this is a standard 2 disc plastic case with the traditional artwork wrap on the outside. The artwork is pretty cool, set up to look like one of the letters the zodiac mailed to the Chronicle. How cool would it have been if made from cardboard with some inserts and inside art, the potential was there, but I think the studio got cheap and just wanted to put the thing out on shelves. Sorry design department, good effort though.

The added 5 minutes were put back in very well. They did not need to be in the theatrical release, it stalls out the middle a bit, bringing the total time for the move to 2 hours and 50 minutes, (or right around). But for a huge fan of the first cut, the Director's cut was a great bonus. The scene most notably added was the one were Paul Avery goes to visit an informant about the killing of the girl back before the first reported zodiac killing and finds the writing on the desk. This leads authorities closer to Leigh Allen as suspect number 1. Was a very cool scene that they only lead into on the theatrical. It shows the visit and there is an intense interaction between Avery and Toschi.

This film is one of the best performed and directed of modern times. So much thought went to not only the characters and how they interact, the script, sets (they recreate 1970s San Fransisco with precise detail), direction, wardrobe that all Hollywoood movies can take note of this. They never did catch zodiac, to this idea, no one has ever been arrested. You'd think you might be bored already knowing the ending. This film defies that and does it with beautiful style. Not a typical look into the zodiac from the killer's eyes as so many really bad straight to dvd films have done. It is an intense look into how obsession consumed the minds of a few close to trying a catch the zodiac, fear of a city under siege never knowing what to expect, and how you may spend a lifetime looking for answers you may never get.

This is one of the ten best films I've ever seen and look forward to watching many more times. The film sends absolute chills down one's spine, which in my opinion is what he wanted. Getting attention for some of the crimes he committed, creating fear in our hearts, and capturing you in the obsession that keeps the zodiac alive almost 40 years later.

The Invisible :: Review

Up next on the chopping block is The Invisible. After watching the trailer on their myspace page months back I really wanted to see this film. Looked like a creative detective story with death and ghosts as the main topic. The movie follows Justin Chatwin as a high school teen that is murdered one night and comes back to life as a ghost. He must solve his own murder and bring the wrong doers to justice. This was what I got from the trailer. This is NOT what the film delivers!

I was highly disappointed, it had a lot of potential but failed to carry through on any of it. Being the victim of false advertising I wish there was a 1-800 number I could call to regain the 2 hours of my life. Directed by David S. Goyer and written by Mick Davis this film lacked anything it hoped to become.

Mr. Davis does not have a lot of decent writing credits to his name yet and this film doesn't help him any. I am most disappointed in Mr. Goyer and the Hollywood machine. Mr. Goyer who is a talented guy, wrote all the Blade films (directing the 3rd installment himself), wrote a lot of the episodes and produced the Blade TV series, and most notably wrote the 2 new Batman films, Batman Begins & the upcoming Dark Knight.

The main character, Justin Chatwin seems to be a talented actor, but you'd never know by watching this film. With his blank stares, emotionless reactions, I can't help but feel that he was numbing it down in vein of him being a ghost and all. Bad idea.

The next character, who may have played a bigger role in the movie as Justin ended up becoming alot of background noise. Her name is Margarita Levieva (A name that makes Lindsey Lohan salivate). Again she seems to be a talented actress put into the wrong role and given some less than fantastic scenes to deliver. Her character was one of the worst I have seen yet. She is a beautiful 105lb attractive young woman who they take the makeup off and give her a hat to tuck her hair in. Then I am lead to believe she is the next Tony Soprano at her local Seattle High School as all the students run from her when she comes a knocking. Oh but she's so tortured in life, that's why she behaves this way.... boohoohoo, get over it sweetheart, we all have a story. I found myself not caring at all for her and wanted to see her get hit by a rogue missle or something.

She is thrust into the forefront of the movie half way through as we watch her demise get deeper and poorly deal with her shitty life. (Come to think of it, Lindsey Lohan would have been perfect for the role)

The characters were forced and false, the story broken and choppy, the action slow and boring. And I would imagine this movie probably had one of the most expensive soundtrack budgets ever paid. From Death Cab to Tool each song played at full length, was like a 110min music video.

I generally try to stay positive on this blog, so with that the movie looked great. For all it's flaws the cinematography was beautiful. How can you go wrong shooting a movie up in the Pacific Northwest? I can't say enough that this film had all the pieces. Creative concept, budget, talented people, but lacked execution. It still blows my mind why so much time & money is put into a production and they never really focus on the story.

I had to call this movie out. So no others had to endure what I went through, it's not worth it man, take the dvd out..... don't say I didn't warn you.

In the famous words of Mr. Arie Gold on Entourage... "I can sell any shitty movie with a great trailer". Touché Mr. Gold, Touché.

Chiller's Dare to Direct Short Film Festival

I recently created a horror-comedy short titled Dracula Must Die for the Chillertv.com short film festival. I want to get recognized as a future horror writer & director and figured this was a nice place to start. I am still a newbie and have a lot to learn in the film medium but what came out in the end I couldn't have been happier with.

Chiller announced the winners last night to the contest which were voted for online, then finalists were picked by Chiller and a secret judge (turned out to be the executive producer of CSI) chose the winners in each category. Categories were Best Film, Creepiest Character, and Best Special Effect.

I received an email from Chiller that they wanted to air part of my film on their Halloween Special so with an excited grin on my face I hurried a dvd and all my legal forms off to L.A. I sat last night waiting and then it started. Drumroll please... drrrrdaaaadrrrrdeeee... I didn't see my film in the entire show. Not a frame. Oh well, better luck next year.

I am very happy for the winners of the contest, and that is what is great about film or any creative work, what is good is held in the mind of the beholder, and is not the same to all. So what the Executive Producer at CSI liked is her opinion, and many may disagree, but it is Chiller's contest, they make the rules.

So again congrats to the winners, thank you to all that helped Dracula Must Die come to life and supported it during the voting. It's still online if you want to see it by clicking the title above or here. And credit to the winner of Best Film this year, Rita, that is one creepy ass movie man, nice job and congratulations.

Maybe we'll all meet again in 08' for next years short film festival.

Diary of the Dead Update

First Night, Dawn, Day, then Land, George A. Romero, father of the modern zombie movies now brings us his 5th installment titled Diary of the Dead. Since it was shoot last year in October 2006 I've been waiting to see it. Made it's premier at the Toronto Film Festival in September this year.

Everyone seems to really dig it, from Variety to Fangoria to USA Today. The only bad review I read slammed it for it's documentary style "Blair Witch" look as an excuse for poor film making. I'll have to see for myself to form an opinion but having seen every Romero film countless times, I'm ready for what's next.

The movie takes place starting over the genre, only right since it is his baby. We follow 4 college film students making a horror movie in the woods when the zombie apocalypse breaks out. Is shot in first person documentary style, hence the comparisons to "Blair". I have seen some movies done this way that have failed, or have been highly effective in involving the audience, taking them along and putting them in the action.

I recently read Diary was shown again at Screamfest 2007 in Los Angeles. It was bought by The Weinstein Company for around 2.5 million with a guaranteed theatrical release. Oh yeah baby, now I'm stoked because it is getting treated right. I'll keep posting but keep an eye out for a release date and go see this movie. The Weinstien's were also behind Grindhouse, my favorite 2 movies I've seen in years We have to support their releases with ticket numbers so they keep it up, releasing horror films that are different, creative and on the cutting edge.

Bruce Campbell News

I don't know about you, but I've been waiting over a year now to see My Name is Bruce. A horror comedy written by Mark Verheiden and directed/starring/produced by Bruce Campbell. A small town in Oregon is invaded by a monster, so the town's folk try to find someone to fight it. They see Bruce kick monster ass in the movies so they snatch him up. But much to their dismay, the actor drinks alot and knows nothing about fighting real monsters.

So I deliver this news with mixed emotions. Bruce's website states that the movie was going straight to dvd this fall after showing at 2 west coast film festivals last summer. I was quite excited. But according to this recent article on Fangoria, looks like we have to be a little more patient. Well welcome to Hollywood baby, cause the coolest stuff always gets thrown under the bus.

I have to say at least it's getting a release, but pushed off until mid-2008. Mark Verheiden's Blog reports that it will be packed with extras and being distributed by Image Entertainment. Still nothing on Image Entertainment's website concerning the actual street date so for now... we wait. When I know something I'll post it here.

In other news I heard a interview with Bruce on Fangoria radio. You can listen here. He states the sequel to Bubba Ho-Tep (excellent movie) called Bubba Nosferatu he will not be part of. He says he walked away from the project claiming creative differences with writer/director Coscarelli. I can only say, what is Coscarelli thinking. I honestly believe the only reason people saw the first one is because Bruce was in it. I have no interest in the sequel Nosferatu starring Billy Zane or someone else. Oh well, can't have it all.

Fido :: Review

Let me start this review by saying, this movie was fantastic. If I had 5 thumbs I'd stick them all up. IT IS AN INSTANT CULT CLASSIC! Very original creative approach to a dying zombie film market. The storytelling was brilliant, the visuals were excellent, and the concept was just cool as hell.

From writer/director Andrew Currie comes Fido an insanely original dark horror comedy. It takes place after the said Zombie Apocalypse has already occurred. Small communities modeled after Leave it to Beaver idealistic 1960's American life are fenced in from what they call the "Wild Zone". Inside these fences an organization named ZomCon is responsible for keeping the people quarantined and the zombies inside the fence domesticated and behaved. That's right, I said inside the fence. A scientist developed a collar that zombies wear to curb their unsatisfied taste for human flesh. So what do we do with them now? We put them to work. Things like gardening, paper delivery, and other menial tasks the masses never want to do.

They are treated like household pets, some have names, some not naming them in fear they will get to close and not be able to kill it if need be. All alive breathing humans that die inside the fence are immediately disposed of by ZomCon removing the head. The radiation in the air instantly brings people back to life hungry for brains. So as you could imagine, old people are a problem. HAHA!

That most impressive part of this film, the amount of detail and care in creating the world in which these characters lived inside the fence. The story stays mainly focused on a small boy named Timmy Robinson played by K'Sun Ray (I swear, I didn't make up that name) and his family. The acting is impressive especially from K'Sun (maybe he's a distant cousin of K'Fed). The movie also stars Carrie Anne Moss, Bill Connolly, and Henry Czerny. It takes a turn for the worst when their zombie lovingly named Fido, gets his collar damaged and eats the next door neighbor. An outbreak occurs which ZomCon quickly puts out but they can't contain it forever.

This is not a movie for the kids, they call it a Lassie movie for adults. There are some good head shots and flesh munching, something I don't think the little ones would understand.

All in all my opinion on this film is we need more like them. Reminded me a bit of the sequel to C.h.u.d. from the late 80's called Bud the C.h.u.d., which has still not been released on dvd here in the US. (write your congressman to get that one out, was a classic and deserves a release) We need more film makers like Currie that believe so much in their work they get the actors, crew and everyone involved to believe in it, then execute it beautifully. Like Mr. Connolly says in the film "Has your father ever tried to eat you?"

Chucky Remake in 08'

Chucky may soon be returning in a remake of the original 1988 Child's Play film. Producer David Kirschner is saying that it is in the works coming out sometime next year to culminate the 20 year anniversary. Supposedly they will re shoot the original script with some added scenes and scares. Claiming that they can do so much more now then they could back then with the addition of CG. Don Mancini, who wrote the first film and sequels, is on board according to Kirschner.

I like the idea, and I especially like that Hollywood is bringing some of the fun back to horror. Keep the comedy kicking Don, we need more of it in the horror genre. The Child's Play movies were fun movies. Even if the masses are into Hostel & Saw sequels, I'll be there for this one.

In the vein of franchise horror, Freddy, Jason, Myers, Chucky, they did it best. And working from the original script, not only saves time, but it gives the audience exactly what it wants, a true remake. So they can't complain that movie didn't stay true to itself.

This was done successfully when Tom Savini remade Romero's Night of the Living Dead with the original script in 1990. I honestly liked it better than Romero's B&W version. It came with the same story, dialogue, characters, just retold it with better effects quality and acting. What I would like to see though is Chucky still being a live action doll figure. Mix in some CG, but real effects are always better, especially in horror.

I'll keep updating if anything else happens about this.
